The South River JV girls soccer team traveled to Bel Air, MD to open their season against the Huskies of Patterson Mill High School. The Seahawks dominated play early in the game and pressured the Huskies goalkeeper on several occasions. Kelsey Racette opened the scoring when she took a pass from Makenzie Shields and shot past the keeper for an early 1-0 lead. Shields had her second assist minutes later and pushed the score to 2-0 when she passed to Haley Darnell for her first goal of the season. South River continued to pressure the Patterson Mill defense until Ashley Tarjick passed to Gabby Holbert who scored for a 3-0 Seahawks lead, which they took into halftime. South River continued their dominance in the second half and Maddie Bonzella scored the Seahawks fourth goal of the game off an assist from Megan Curtner. Seven minutes later, Racette assisted Marisa Falsone for a 5-0 Seahawks lead. With five minutes left in the game, Becca McClenahan had a long throw into the box which was taken by Tarjick who tipped the ball to Bonzella for the final score of the game and a South River 6-0 victory. South River had seventeen shots on goal while the Seahawks back line of Mia Piazza, Morgan McLean, Becca McClenahan, Elizabeth Bills, Kayla Hannon, Kayla Bobick and Kelly May held the Huskies to a single shot on goal.
