South River closed out their season in exciting fashion against the visiting Lions of Dulaney High School from Baltimore County, MD. The Seahawks opened the game putting high pressure on the Lions keeper forcing her to make several saves in the opening minutes. South River broke through eight minutes into the game when Lissette Carneiro took a pass from Sophia Michalsky-Cooper and fired a shot over the keeper from twenty-two yards out for a 1-0 lead. The Dulaney keeper continued to frustrate the Seahawks front line making save after save to keep the game in reach. Dulaney evened the score at the twenty-four minute mark when a long ball was lofted over the South River defense and a Lions attacker raced through the back line and placed a hard shot into the upper corner over keeper Jordan Vincent. The score remained tied 1-1 at halftime. Both teams fought hard for the opening minutes of the second half. South River took the lead back with a virtual identical play at the forty-three minute mark when Carneiro again took a pass from Michalsky-Cooper and shot over the keeper from outside the box to push the lead to 2-1. The remaining minutes of the game were a back and forth battle with the Dulaney keeper making numerous saves and the game was not decided until Seahawks keeper Jordan Vincent made a diving save in the final minute to preserve the 2-1 South River final. The Seahawks dominated play with twenty-four shots against the Lions two shots on goal. South River concluded the season with a record of eleven wins and one loss. The Seahawks scored a school record sixty-eight goals and allowed only four goals all season. Carneiro led the team with thirteen goals scored and Michalsky-Cooper had a team high nine assists.
