On a cold and dreary day, the South River tennis team provided the light in their bright, pink t-shirts for Breast Cancer Awareness Day as they defeated Chesapeake 6-3.

The number two girls' doubles team of sophomore Hannah Parks and freshman Katie Simmons lead the way with their fourth double bagel of the season.  That team, along with sophomore Xiaosong Shang, is still undefeated on the season.

Senior Ryan Flemming added to the total with a convincing 6-3, 6-2 victory.  Fellow senior Maya Fromme recorded a double bagel of her own in the number two girls' singles slot.  Junior Samantha Simmons and sophomore Mary Duggan teamed to win at number one girls' doubles, while seniors Liz Simmons and Sean Miller rounded out the day for the Seahawks at mixed doubles.  The Simmons sisters combined for three of the team's six points on the day.

The win improved South River's record to 5-1 on the season and 4-1 in county play.  South River travels to Great Mills tomorrow for a 4:00 p.m. tilt with their opponent from the Southern Maryland Athletic Conference.
