South River Seahawks (12-8) close the regular season with 9-3 victory over Annapolis
An impressive two-way performance from winning starter Scott Mitchell led South River to a 9-3 win Monday over Annapolis, as Mitchell came up huge at the dish and on the rubber. Mitchell racked up two RBIs on two hits for South River. He singled in the third and fifth innings.
Annapolis managed just one hit off of Mitchell, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out six during his two innings of work.
Five runs in the opening three innings allowed South River to easily put away Annapolis. A sacrifice fly by Mitchell in the first inning and a passed ball during the second inning fueled South River's offense early.
Craig Sheridan relieved tossing two innings of shutout ball. Sheridan struck out four, walked none and gave up no hits. Reliever Austin Wright K'd 2 and allowed 3 runs and senior Nick Sia returned to the mound for the final inning striking out 2.
After posting three runs in the third including Joe Scott on a passed ball, South River again scored three in the fifth.A clutch wild pitch scored Mitchell to open the scoring in the frame. That was followed up by Bryan Shores's double, plating Jake Gratz and Nick Raimondo. John McDonald also has an RBI in the game.
