Sheridan tosses one hitter as South River downs Eleanor Roosevelt, 4-0 Craig Sheridan stymied the Raiders on Tuesday, throwing a complete game shutout and striking out 10, as the Seahawks ground out a win over Eleanor Roosevelt in the MPSSAA 4A Semi-finals Tuesday at the University of Maryland. The Raiders could not solve Sheridan, as he gave up just one hit, while walking only one in his seven innings of work. The Hawks helped him out by pouncing early, scoring three runs in the first. Gabe Vertucci led off with a single, Jake Gratz was hit by a pitch and Scott Mitchell lined a rope to center that was misplayed. Vertucci came across on the play to record his second game winning run is as many games. Two ground outs by Sheridan and Cox brought home Gratz and Mitchell. South River added one in the sixth as Brody Raimondo led of with a single. Nick Raimondo hustled out a double, and Vertucci bounced a grounder to second to bring B. Raimondo home for the final Hawk run. The star of the day, however, was clearly Sheridan, who shrugged off the 90 temperatures and efficiently plowed through the Raider lineup on only 84 pitches. The Hawks (19-5) now move to the 4A finals Friday night at 7:30 at Cal Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen. 4A Championship brackets: http://mpssaa.countysportszone.com/?bracket=44
