South River Squeaks by Annapolis 3-2
The Seahawks had their hands full with an energetic Panthers squad Monday, but ultimately prevailed 3-2 in seven innings at South River.
Austin Wright had the game winning RBI, plating Nick Raimondo with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth. The run made a victor of Pierce Tyrrell, who kept the Panthers in check after a shaky first inning. Tyrrell struck out six while allowing two earned runs, three hits and no walks over 5 2/3 innings. Nick Raimondo came on for the save, striking out one and yielding no hits and no walks.
Annapolis jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Jakwaun Caldwell doubled to ignite Annapolis' offense. Annapolis then tacked on another when Corey Blazevich scored on an RBI triple by Doug Remaley.
The Hawks tied it in the bottom of the second. Wright singled and eventually scored from third on a Kyle Leonard infield single. Gabe Vertucci then reached on an error and Eric Sieber scored on the errant throw.
Scott Mitchell and Connor Cox had the other two hits for South River.
The Hawks finished the regular season 15-5 and will play in the Anne Arundel County Championship vs. North County on Wednesday at Joe Cannon Stadium.
