Mitchell surges in extra innings, Seahawks gouge Severna Park 3-1
Scott Mitchell grew stronger as the game went on, ultimately striking out 14 Falcons to carry South River to a 3-1 victory over Severna Park at Severna Park.
Mitchell worked out of a number of tough spots, including second and third with no one out in the second, and bases loaded one out in the sixth. He pitched nine innings and allowed no earned runs on six hits for the complete game.
Eric Sieber's grounder broke the tie in the 9th. Nick Raimondo worked the count, walked and stole second. Kyle Canavan also walked. Sieber grounded to third and Raimondo and Canavan scored on a wild throw to first.
Craig Sheridan started the scoring in the fourth, launching a rope into the outfield trees for his first home run of the season.
Severna Park managed to score one run in the sixth inning on an error, but Mitchell powered through that and closed the door on the Falcons over the next 4 innings.
South River improves to 12-5 and faces Southern tomorrow.
