Seahawks can't claw back from 4 run deficit, fall 4-2 to Arundel
South River had a couple of chances with runners in scoring position, but could not even the game after getting down 4 runs in the first to fall to Arundel 4-2 at Joe Cannon Stadium Friday night.
Arundel's Steven Ghiardi kept the Hawks off balance and struck out 10 on the night, while the Wildcats pounced in the bottom of the first against South River starter Nick Raimondo, scoring four on a double, three singles, an error and a sacrifice fly.
The Hawks got one back in the third on a single by Gabe Vertucci and a double to left by Brody Raimondo. Vertucci had two hits in the game. In the sixth, Connor Cox had his second single and Craig Sheridan drove a double to the right field corner for the Hawks' second run. But South River could not push across any more as Ghiardi and reliever Cooper Hibbs kept the Hawks at bay.
Mitchell came on in the second and shut Arundel down, allowing no runs and striking out seven in five innings of work.
The loss puts the Hawks at 11-5 overall.
