Seahawks stampede Mustangs with 8 runs in the sixth
South River (9-2 overall), parlayed a big sixth inning into a win versus Meade, 11-1, in six innings at SRHS on Monday.
Connor Cox racked up three RBIs on a rocket homer to left center. His second Conbomb of the year was the big hit for the Hawks in the inning.
Pierce Tyrrell moved to 2-0 on the season, recording the win for South River. He allowed one run over 4 2/3 innings, while striking out four and walking one. Thomas Falsone was superb in relief, holding Meade hitless over 1 1/3 innings, with no walks and two strikeouts.
The game was close until the sixth, with South River's only runs coming on an Austin Wright groundout in the 2nd, a Brody Raimondo groundout in the 4th, and a sharp single to left by Kyle Canavan in the 5th.
In the sixth, a couple of walks and hit batter set the stage for RBI hits by Gabe Vertucci, Canavan, and Cox's blast. Jake Gratz had two hits in the inning, including the walk off single that scored South River's 11th run.
Other notables included Canavan and Vertucci with 2 RBIs, while Nick Raimondo and Kyle Leonard had line drive doubles.
The Hawks next play Wednesday at home vs. Chesapeake.
