Seahawks Pound Southern 13-0
South River Seahawks shut the door early, capturing a 13-0 victory on Wednesday at Southern on a cold and windy afternoon.
With eight runs in the first three innings, South River Seahawks Varsity left no doubt about the eventual outcome.
A two-run single by Craig Sheridan, a groundout by Austin Wright, and an RBI single by Nick Raimondo in the first inning and an RBI single by Scott Mitchell, a wild pitch, and an error during the second inning helped South River Seahawks Varsity put some runs on the board early.
Mitchell reached base four times, once on a triple. He scored four runs and had one RBI.
Sheridan recorded the win for South River Seahawks Varsity. He tossed three innings of shutout ball. Sheridan struck out four, walked two and gave up two hits.
Pierce Tyrrell was in control in relief. Tyrrell held Southern hitless over two innings, allowed no runs, walked two and struck out three.
South River Seahawks Varsity added three more runs in the top of the fifth. An error for Tyrrell scored Kyle Canavan who got on by a single to get South River Seahawks Varsity on the board in the inning. That was followed up by Wright's single, bringing home Mitchell and Alec Witkowski running for Tyrrell.
Seahawks are now 5-0 on the season.
