South River offense pounds Great Mills in 19-3 rout
The South River Seahawks routed Great Mills 19-3 on Tuesday at SRHS. The Hawks ripped key hits and took advantage of a number of Great Mills miscues -- scoring nineteen runs in the first three innings to put the game away early.
RBI singles by Gabe Vertucci, Connor Cox, and Nick Raimondo, as well as an RBI double by Craig Sheridan, and a two-run home run by Scott Mitchell, set the tone in the first. In the second, a two-run single by Nick Raimondo, an RBI double by Kyle Canavan, and a two-run single by Vertucci quickly put the game out of reach.
Cox went a perfect 3-3 at the dish for South River and launched a conbomb over the left field fence, while Vertucci and Nick Raimondo had 3 RBIs each. Kyle Leonard had two RBIs, and Jake Donaldson, Mike Labs and Mike Kalin also had ribbies for SR, who improved to 4-0 overall.
Austin Wright took the hill and was in complete control, holding Great Mills hitless over three innings, while striking out three. Thomas Falsone came on and recorded the final 6 outs in his first varsity action of his career.
