One year after the Chesapeake High School football team stunned South River with a one-point win, it appeared the Seahawks learned their lesson.
South River racked up 354 rushing yards and rolled to a 44-0 victory over the host Cougars in an Anne Arundel County game Friday.
The Seahawks (3-0) carried a similar 2-0 record into Pasadena last season but Chesapeake pulled out a 12-11 win. That game was fresh on the mind of senior running back Drew Lee, who rushed for 118 yards on 14 carries and a touchdown.
Lee, the county's leading rusher, now has 46 carries on the season for 532 yards and five touchdowns. Senior fullback Michael Novicky contributed eight carries for 77 yards and a touchdown while junior Cody Tidwell had six carries for 91 yards and one touchdown, including a 63-yard run at the end of the fourth quarter.
Lee also helped out the cause on defense, preventing a touchdown by intercepting the ball six yards in the end zone and returning it 49 yards to the South River 43. The play set up his own 21-yard touchdown run midway through the second.
The Seahawks' defense held the Cougars (0-3) to a mere 45 total yards in the game.
South River starts their three-game home stand against Arundel next week while Chesapeake travels across town to rival Northeast.
